Griffin and Dijit announce Android-compatible Beacon universal remote control system

Beacon

You're sitting on the couch watching TV. You likely have two or three remotes around and can never find the right one when you need it -- if you can find it all, for that matter. But what about your phone? You know where that is at all times right?  Griffin and Dijit are counting on that awareness of knowing where your phone is at all times to make your TV viewing experience a whole lot better as they've announced Beacon for Android.

Beacon works by converting Bluetooth signals from smartphones and tablets into infrared signals required to control consumer electronics devices. Beacon gives users complete control over TVs, DVRs, stereos and other home entertainment devices, but with the flexibility of a touchscreen interface.

The wireless system runs on 4AA batteries and once paired up via Bluetooth with your device, you'll be able to control all those electronics via your smartphone or tablet. Couple that with the Dijit application that offers access to tv episode details, upcoming schedules, and cast & crew info and you've got a pretty rocking home entertainment setup. The Beacon system is shipping now for $70 and the Dijit app is available in the Android Market -- if you're look for more information you can check out the source link or view the press-release past the break.
