There has been a lot of chatter recently about smart watches that have the ability to alert you graphically and audibly but this Kickstarter project wants to put a slightly different spin on that theme. The Embrace+ is not as smart as a smart watch as it doesn't have any display but what it does offer is colored notifications. These notifications can be set to a huge selection of colors each specifically matched to an apps notifications. If you tend to keep your iPhone in your handbag or deep pocket, this bracelet could be ideal so you never miss a call or an important text or email.

EMBRACE+ is the result of an idea that we came up with during a night out over a couple of drinks last summer. While laughing about ourselves checking our phones all the time to see whether we had received a message on one of the popular social media apps we decided to come up with a solution. Right away we agreed we don't want to wear a 'device' and it should easily blend in with any fashion style. The idea of the EMBRACE+ was born!

EMBRACE+ is a fashion accessory with true functionality! Whether you are in the middle of a workout or meeting, you'll always be notified about important calls and messages. You can customize notifications with colors that match your style and save them in a profile.

The EMBRACE+ bracelet keeps you connected to your smartphone and notifies you by flashing different colors for different apps and contacts. Choose colors for incoming calls from your girlfriend, boyfriend, boss, a contact group, unknown callers and more.

The Embrace+ comes with a companion iPhone app that will let you customize color schemes and set up all of your color notifications and even flashing patterns for lots of different applications. You can even drill down to individual caller ID notifications so you can see who is calling as long as you have a great memory for colors and different flashing schemes.

The Embrace+ is looking for backers on Kickstarter so if you want to become an early adopter you can pledge $39 or more to get one. It’s not looking great for the project as it has only reached just over $35K and needs to reach over $220K to become a reality.

Windows 8 App Store images leaked?

Windows 8 images continue to leak onto the Internet, despite Microsoft's wallpaper-based pleas to those with access to the early releases. Today's installment courtesy CNBeta shows the upcoming Windows App Store, which will likely feature prominently in Windows 8.

We've got our doubts about the authenticity of the image. In addition to showing several of the built-in games which already ship with Windows, Opera is listed -- and a competing browser seems like an odd inclusion this early on. Of course, with the browser ballot still in place in the EU for quite some time, Microsoft would probably need to include rivals like Opera and Firefox to stay out of trouble. We're also not sure why Clickgamer is shown beneath Angry Birds instead of Rovio -- the game's actual publisher.

It's still early, of course, so it's entirely possible that the Windows App Store image is genuine but merely using placeholder images and text for now. Anyone else thinking Windows Marketplace might be a more logical name? You know, to keep things consistent with Windows Phone and keep Apple's legal eagles at bay.

Android 4.2.2 binaries arrive for AOSP-supported Nexus devices

Google has just provided a veritable boon to Android devs and custom ROM makers. The Mountain View company has recently uploaded the latest Android 4.2.2 binaries to the Nexus device download page for all AOSP-supported Nexus gear: the Nexus 4, the Nexus 7 WiFi, the Nexus 7 3G, the Nexus 10, the global version of the Galaxy Nexus and its Verizon equivalent. This also means that the AOSP (Android Open Source Project binaries) finally exist for the Nexus 7 3G and the Nexus 4, which had been missing from previous updates. If you've been on the hunt for the latest and greatest drivers for your wares, go ahead and download the binary of your choice from the source below and get to updating it before a certain green pie update comes along.

It used to be that any smartphone screen beyond three inches was considered big -- and it was, for an audience still weaning itself off of flip phones and PDAs. But when the 6.1-inch Ascend Mate is a reality, and Mobile World Congress or future events may push the boundaries even further, there's still a worry that the focus on successively bigger displays might have gone too far. HTC One now up for pre-order on Rogers

Like so many carriers before it, Rogers in Canada has announced that it is now accepting pre-orders and reservations for the upcoming HTC One. New customers can get their pre-order in online to guarantee they'll have one when the device launches, and existing customers can "reserve" one for the same system -- although there doesn't seem to be any indication of whether or not existing customers are prioritized over new ones. The pricing will be the same regardless -- Rogers is charging $149.99 with a 3 year contract, which is a standard term in Canada. If you pre-order through Rogers before March 22, you're also entered into a contest to win a new Sharp HDTV with an HTC Media Link accessory.

Rogers is also reminding customers that HTC is offering $100 off the purchase of an HTC One if you trade in your old HTC device. If you're interested in picking one of these up as soon as they're available, hit up the source links below.

IE9 and Firefox 4 post top marks in Web browser power use comparison

Over on the Internet Explorer Blog, Microsoft has posted results from an extensive comparison of the top five Web browsers. The goal: to determine whether Internet Explorer 9, Firefox 4, Chrome 10, Safari 5, or Opera 11 is able to squeeze the most life out of your laptop's battery.

A baseline was determined with test systems sitting idle, and then browsers were pointed at about:blank, a news site, the HTML5 Galactic demo, and the IE9 fish tank demo. Perhaps unsurprisingly, IE9 came out on top -- though Firefox 4 was a very close second on nearly every test. As you can see, the other browsers didn't necessarily fare quite as well, with Google Chrome, Safari, and Opera all posting significantly worse scores. In Opera 11's case, a laptop battery would last over one hour more with Internet Explorer 9 installed.

But what we'd really like to know is where did Microsoft find the dilithium crystals required to run a Galactic Total Power Consumption test...

Opera 11.10 gets HTML5 File API support, IMAP improvements

The crew in Oslo keeps plugging away at Opera 11.10, and the latest snapshot build includes a number of improvements to Opera's built-in email client -- as well as HTML5-related additions.

On the IMAP front, Opera now supports special folders like sent items, spam, and trash. It also better handles duplicate items in Gmail -- such as those which appear in all mail and under your custom labels.

Opera 11.10 now partially supports the HTML5 File API as well, which means your favorite Web apps (like Gmail) may soon begin adding Opera to the list of supported browsers.

You can download the latest Opera 11.10 snapshot for Windows, Mac, or Linux from the official release post.

Apple orders iCab iOS browser to cripple JavaScript modules

The developer of iCab Mobile, a feature-rich alternative to the Safari Web browser on iPad and iPhone, has been ordered by Apple to remove its ability to download and install JavaScript modules.

Presumably it's not the fact that iCab can execute JavaScript that's causing Apple to apoplectically puff and splutter, but rather its ability to download modules. Both Apple and Google frown upon apps that contain market-like functionality, and someone at Apple probably thought that iCab's JavaScript modules looked like a bit too much like discrete apps.

Alexander Clauss, iCab's developer, has rather a lot to say on the matter. "Maybe if I would have called the modules 'smart bookmarks' and would have made installing them much more complicated, Apple would have never asked to remove the ability to download them from the internet. The great user experience of installing modules has probably created a suspicion that these modules are more than just a piece of JavaScript code. From a pure technical point of view, if Apple does not allow to download modules (JavaScript code), Apple would also have to disallow to load web pages in general, because these do also contain JavaScript code."

In conclusion, to circumvent Apple's draconian decree, iCab Mobile now simply comes bundled with some 20 JavaScript modules. The ability to download modules made by third-party developers has been disabled, however -- but even then, Clauss says that you can simply contact him and ask for your module to be bundled with the next version of iCab.

Runtastic adds Timer to their app portfolio, not just a stopwatch

Anyone into exercising apps will likely have heard of Runtastic. Their portfolio of exercise focused apps is quite, quite excellent combining superb functionality with excellent design. The latest app to join the collection is called Timer. But, it isn't just a stopwatch. 

Timer is customizable to assist you to break down your work outs into sections. You enter the duration you desire for preparation, rest periods and working out, along with the number of repetitions and sets. Timer then counts down through each portion, with the option of voice feedback to notify you when you have reached the end. Voice output currently is available in five languages. Users on Jelly Bean can also take advantage of a notification that contains a pause and stop button as well as a visual countdown clock. 

The app itself is a free download from the Google Play Store, but for a relatively small in-app purchase of £0.85/€0.99 you can create unlimited timers and remove the ads. It's another job well done from the Runtastic team, and we've captured a few in-app screenshots for you after the break.

YouTube for iOS updated, can now send video to your TV or game console

YouTube for iOS has been updated, gaining the ability to send videos to your TV. Users can now pair their YouTube app on iPhone, iPad, or both with a Smart TV, Xbox 360, or Playstation 3, and the elect to play videos that they find through the iOS app on their television. Once your devices are paired, find the video you want to watch in the iOS app, select it, then hit television icon on the top bar, to the left of the search icon, and choose your device from the provided list.

In addition to “send to TV”, YouTube now features improved streaming over slower Wi-Fi connections and stability improvements. Finally, YouTube for iPhone can now send you directly to the YouTube Capture app to record and upload videos.

HTC Zoe Share site goes live to show off new HTC One camera feature

HTC has been pushing the new camera features included in Sense 5, and one of the most interesting ones (pardon the pun) is HTC Zoe. It's honestly not the easiest thing to explain, and is best seen in its full form, which HTC is helping out with by putting up its "HTC Zoe Share" site today for all to see. The basic idea is to take multiple pictures and video clips at the same time, and then let the software stitch them, add filters, transitions and music. The end result is likely to make a more enjoyable piece of footage than what you'd normally get out of a smart phone camera.

Head to the source link below to see one of the headline Zoes from the HTC One launch event, which shows off what this feature is capable of. The entire piece is just 30 seconds (as Zoes will be), but tells a bit of a story in just a short time. We can only imagine what some real artists will be able to do with this once it hits consumer's hands.
